Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011
The European Parliament officially published the ‘provision of food information to consumers’ regulation on 22 November 2011. This has a considerable impact on the specification management system, packaging and labelling. Because of this new regulation, over 95% of the existing packaging, foils and labels have to be changed.

What are the consequences?
As from 13 December 2014, all labels on prepacked foods have to comply with the new regulation. The most important changes include the following: mandatory nutrition declaration, mandatory font size and adjusted typography when allergens are present.

Joining forces
We find it important that our customers receive accurate and timely information about the new regulation. We are now working closely with partners that are actively involved with legislation (Précon Food Management B.V.) labelling machines (Espera Nederland B.V.) and automation solutions (ReflexSystems and Toshiba). We have joined forces to share our knowledge. This is the right combination in order to optimally provide information regarding the most important changes and what effect this has on current labelling.

A final note
On 21 & 28 March 2013, Etiket Nederland B.V. organised the ‘Modern labelling’ seminar. Additional information about this seminar and the new regulation can be found on the www.nieuwerwetsetiketteren.nl website.
